The ballet-ification of footwear continues with another new entry from ASICS, the Japanese brand transforming the GEL-DS Trainer into a new open-footed, Y2K chic silhouette for women.
Hot on the heels of Gohar World’s collaboration comes a set of general-release colorways in silver and black, shown here via official retailer images. The mesh-and-leather construction and signature side paneling of the GEL-DS Trainer remain intact, though the forefoot is cut out entirely for a ballet-shoe-inspired look, held together only by the laces. This is one of several tech runner/ballet shoe hybrids to emerge in recent seasons, joining similar transformations by New Balance, PUMA, ASICS, and others.
