Ahead Of US Open, Coco Gauff Debuts The New Balance 983

New Balance is adding yet another silhouette to its increasingly deep catalog of new silhouettes. The official introduction of the 983, coming days after its designer revealed a first look on Instagram, arrives with the help of tennis superstar and New Balance athlete Coco Gauff ahead of her much-anticipated appearance in Flushing.

New Balance certainly isn’t suffering from a shortage of new ideas. If anything, the brand might be introducing new lifestyle models faster than consumers can fully digest the accelerated expansion of its catalog that includes the 1954R, the variants of the 2000, Action Bronson’s 2811, and Ronnie Fieg’s 2011.

That ambitious conveyor belt continues with the New Balance 983, a brand-new lifestyle model inspired by the company’s performance running designs of the 2000s. Rather than directly reviving one archival sneaker, the 983 pulls elements from several classic New Balance models and reshapes them into something refreshed. The upper mixes rounded overlays with a traditional “N” logo at the saddle, while much of the shoe’s personality comes from its sculpted tooling underfoot; this formula has worked wondrously for the brand thus far as seen by the mass success of the New Balance 9060.

ABZORB SBS pods appear in an elliptical shape through the midsole, complemented by wave-like moldings extending across the midsole and outsole. The combination gives the 983 a distinctly technical appearance while maintaining the streamlined shape that has become increasingly prevalent across New Balance’s lifestyle offerings.

The New Balance 983 will officially launch globally on October 1st, 2026 for $160.
