Caitlin Clark Had The Biggest Shoe Launch In Nike History

We previously called the Nike Caitlin 1 the brand’s most important debut signature sneaker since LeBron. On the heels of the shoe’s October 1st debut, we now have some numbers to back that up. Nike CEO Elliott Hill confirms that the Caitlin 1 is the largest signature shoe launch in Nike’s history, landing at 5,000 doors in a takeover twice the size of the average Nike Basketball signature shoe launch.

The reasoning behind the big push has to do with the brand’s growth in women’s basketball in general. Nike has kicked off three WNBA signature lines in the last three years alone, first for Sabrina Ionescu, then for A’ja Wilson, and now for Clark. The first two have been extraordinarily successful. The Nike Sabrina 2 in particular was one of the most popular shoes in professional basketball in 2024/25, while the Nike A’One and A’Two have benefitted greatly from the many feats of the four-time MVP.

Clark’s importance to Nike has as much to do with her celebrity as her basketball prowess. She might not be the league’s best player, but the WNBA has never seen one individual draw like her before. Follow the money if you so wish: ticket sales skyrocket when the Indiana Fever come to town, as do TV ratings. And then there are the Nike ad spots, the State Farm commercials, the Taylor Swift friendship. The “Caitlin Clark effect” has its own Wikipedia page, for Christ’s sake.

So with all that being said, how is the Caitlin 1 actually performing? It’s been just over 24 hours since the sneaker debuted, so take the following with a grain of salt. Both the Nike Caitlin 1 “Racer Blue” and “Warning Code” are currently sold out across Nike’s owned platforms, while Foot Locker and DICK’S still have most sizes available. Exactly what that tells us, however, remains unclear. We don’t have in-person sales data from the 5,000 physical doors Nike targeted for launch, nor do we know how many pairs were produced, both crucial pieces of context when gauging demand. And perhaps most importantly, kids’ sizes have yet to release, leaving out a significant portion of Clark’s audience in young, aspiring girl hoopers.

Again, if you’re out to get in on the mania, the Nike Caitlin 1 “Racer Blue” and “Warning Code” are still available via Foot Locker and DICK’S. See our Where to Buy sections below for purchase links.
