Converse Charges Up A Dragon Ball Z Collection For July 13th

We’ll leave deliberations on the top spot for more qualified sources, but there’s little doubt that Dragon Ball Z sits in a pole position when it comes to the most iconic and influential anime series of all time. Goku in particular has reached a level of ubiquity that few fictional characters, let alone figures from the genre, ever even flirt with, and Converse is seeking to tap into that DNA with its latest effort.

Officially unveiled today is the Converse x Dragon Ball Z capsule, a seven-shoe and apparel collection that celebrates some of the series’ most lasting heroes and villains, primarily through the lens of the Converse Chuck 70. Clearly at the center of this effort is a Shenron/Dragon Ball pair, utilizing the classic white/black sneaker as a foundation but outfitting it with a full-length graphic of the scaly wish-granter.

From there, we take on more corporeal characterizations. Of course, Son Goku features prominently with an orange canvas colorway, the fourth Dragon Ball included there as a hangtag. Longtime foil Vegeta brings techy geometry to a blue and white edition, adapting his Scouter as its detachable charm. Legendary antagonists Frieza and Cell adapt their show appearances faithfully, with some creative touches on Frieza’s, via a rounded purple patent leather tongue, and Cell’s, with extended horn-like flanges in the same spot. Majin Buu (as Innocent Buu) rounds out the nefarious trio with cutesy face detailing down its midline, before a “Fusion” pair closes the capsule by depicting Kid Trunks and Goten’s Fusion Dance to become Gotenks.

Two tees and a hoodie are also dropping alongside these seven shoes. Fans will also get the chance to customize their own as Dragon Ball Z options load into Converse By You. All of this takes place on July 23rd via Converse channels in North America and Greater China, before a worldwide launch follows on August 11th.
