With Caitlin Clark graduating to the signature shoe rank via the Nike Caitlin 1 in October, Kobe Brand is now nurturing its strong WNBA presence spreading the PE love across the league. Veteran guard Arike Ogunbowale of the Dallas Wings is the latest recipient, popping out the other night in a never-before-seen Nike Kobe 5 Protro.
A college icon who led Notre Dame to a national title in 2018, Ogunbowale took the floor against the Chicago Sky in a Kobe 5 Protro featuring split coloring. The shoe opens with a navy blue foundation, sporting a coral red on the lateral side and light blue on the medial. The split motif flows through the entire shoe, encompassing the overlays, outsole, and even the Mamba sheath on the tongue.
Ogunbowale’s sneaker profile is modest to this point, her first release being a Nike GT Cut 2 “Bright Mandarin” back in 2023. These aren’t expected to see a public launch, though the fact that she laced them up suggests fans may have actual releases to look forward to down the line.
