The discipline of a shooter is picking your spots. The best path to gains lies in rest and recovery. Whether cheat days are integral to maintaining a diet is a far less agreed-upon concept, but Nike is outfitting one of its buzziest trainers with an homage to the glory of vegging out.
Indeed, as part of their SNKRS Verified program, an officially sanctioned platform with which the Swoosh can preview upcoming releases away from the prying eyes of leakers and (regretfully) sneaker media, they’ve teed up a new Nike Vomero Plus SP. While it’s a risky game to do so nowadays in the wake of the legal proceedings around the Air Max 95 “7-Eleven,” this is no doubt a coy reference to Cheeto-stained fingertips, something the brand themselves acknowledge in official copy: “inspired by couch comfort, an orange textured fade mimics snack-stained fingertips.” True to that description, a comprehensively khaki body indeed leads to uneven fiery tonality at the toe.
To our eye, this almost reads as some dotSWOOSH-esque subversion, the sub-brand frequently dipping into this cheeky side of things with the Air Force 1 “Dirty Triple White” or the ReactX Rejuven8 “Touch Grass,” but perhaps a shoe like this or the Air Force 1 “Horse of a Different Color” demonstrates a company-wide shift to less-than-serious fare.
Whether this is an allusion to the super-stacked comfort the Vomero Plus and your favorite recliner have in common, or Nike is indeed highlighting an under-discussed aspect of their “everyone with a body is an athlete” approach, is up to your judgment. The Nike Vomero Plus “Cheat Day” is expected out sometime in the Fall/Winter range.
