The Nike First Sight Shadow Pens An Ink-Like “Gridiron” Colorway

Consumers haven’t exactly fallen in love with the Nike First Sight women’s collection as the brand intended, but truth be told, that might have more to do with positioning than the product itself. For those who grew up on Nike Alpha Project basketball releases and the brand’s more experimental footwear of the late ’90s and early 2000s, the First Sight Shadow in particular feels like something of a time capsule, reworking those once-beloved aesthetics for today, and quite well at that.

Following Black, Metallic Silver, and Light Crimson colorways comes an all-new navy makeup dubbed “Gridiron.” The molded, Foamposite-esque outer shell is covered almost entirely in the titular navy hue, interrupted only by black Swooshes at the toe and Metallic Silver blobs peeking through the protruding side ovals. A V-shaped black nylon bootie sits underneath, with matching black paint carried through to the outsole.

The first few First Sight Shadow releases have largely sat on shelves, so there’s reason to believe this “Gridiron” pair could meet a similar fate. That said, sentiment can always shift, particularly when a silhouette this rooted in Nike’s ’90s design language starts finding the right audience. The model remains a women’s exclusive for now, though it’s not yet clear how far the sizing will extend on this latest pair.
