PACE Brings Brazil And Japan Together On The ASICS GEL-Kayano 12.1

Brazil’s PACE, founded by Felipe Matayoshi, is no stranger to ASICS. Indeed, the two first kicked off a partnership in 2023 with a subtle overhaul of the GEL-QUANTUM 360 VII, titled “The Brismo.” The two labels finding each other was fait accompli; though based in Sao Paulo, PACE and Matayoshi have always been propelled by his dual heritage, tracing roots to both Brazil and Japan.

That core value is only strengthened as PACE and ASICS unwrap their second collaboration, the ASICS GEL-Kayano 12.1. In the process of rolling out this shoe, Matayoshi has promised to delve deeper into the narrative behind the shoe, but its luxury leanings are evident without any background or context. Pocked synthetics sit atop grid-like synthetics, while the overlays shift into almost a croc composition. Further, slick black defines the cross-hatch logo on the side, while embossed PACE and ASICS logos toggle medially and laterally between the quarter and toe. Overall, the shoe leans on a simplistic palette of white and black, leaving the real intrigue in those weighty details, clearly something that’s in heavy supply with this link-up. A fire red rear ASICS brand and midfoot shank close with off-tone accent.
