Nike is taking a straightforward route with the latest Air Liquid Max “Triple Black”, but the shoe still feels anything but plain. The color scheme stays fully black from top to bottom, yet the mix of finishes keeps it from looking flat. Mesh covers most of the upper, while glossy molded pieces wrap the mudguard and heel, giving the design a slick, modern feel.
Colors are understated as usual, allowing the silhouette to pop more. A black Swoosh fades into the side panels, tongue branding is also subtle and the entire upper features a tactile texture that pops more in close ups. Detailing that texture creates a slight scaled effect on the shoe in some photos, giving this blackout iteration just a bit more character.
Speaking of the outsole, that’s definitely the talk of the show. Nike equipped this release with a full-length Air unit that’s comprised of bubble-like pods spanning the entire bottom. This alone really sets the shoe apart from your typical Air Max offerings. Peeking through, the translucent outsole features a smoky finish that continues the dark color scheme without going overboard.
Nike even carried that same energy over to the packaging, with an iridescent black box that fits the pair nicely.
