Nike has brought a ton of special edition energy to their Air Max line as of late, from the all-new Air Liquid Max to mainline reinventions like the Air Max 90 “Mad 90” series.
Even as the latter came to light with contextless official images, the theme was immediately evident, pulling iconic soccer cleats onto Tinker Hatfield’s design. Though it’s seemingly crystal clear that designers pulled out a ton of stops for the Nike Air Max Plus at hand, what exactly their aim is is less clear. Inverting our usual, we’ll begin on the interiors, where a block-lettered Swoosh and a flaming yin/yang symbol seem to speak to street art. Perhaps it’s that urban focus that leads to the denim materiality below the usual side waves. Under light, the cages bear an iridescent rainbow, a perfect contrast to the moody “Dark Raisin/Liquid Lime” tonality that carries this shoe overall.
This Nike Air Max Plus in “Dark Raisin/Liquid Lime” has already started populating global Nike sites, indicating that a stateside launch shouldn’t be too far behind. Be ready for a $180 retail price upon arrival.
