It feels like every time we turn our attention to New Balance, there’s some discussion of “newness.” Whether taking an established design and radically changing its form or, more simply, introducing the latest in a deluge of novel models overall, the Boston brand has truly taken the bull by the horns in the past year and change, ever-changing in how its catalog looks on the whole.

Teddy Santis’ Made in USA program comfortably fits the bill, shifting between 99x silhouettes and similarly solid peers for what’s become appointment viewing within the company’s fanbase. While that anticipation and overall release strategy has stayed consistent, where this season immediately broke the mold was in its color choices.
The New Balance 992 “Sea Stone” at hand spoke to that as soon as campaign images touched down, departing from Santis’ love for earth tones and developing a color-forward profile. Cerulean suede uppers dominate the real estate here, but a sunny sole unit, pops of green in the cushioning, and a patch of purple suede on the heel create a spring-ready colorway befitting its seasonal spotlight.
