Much as the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” methodology often pays off in sneakers, sometimes opting for the Costanza method instead can be just the thing to break through a period of being stale. Opting for the exact opposite of instinct, or really consumer expectation, has bore fruit for Nike in the past; the SB Dunk rejecting the Nike SB penchant for collaborations and inking some real successes around the turn of the decade via the “Orange Label” skate-focused pairs.
Most high performing versions of the Nike Shox line maintain contrast coloring in the Shox pillars, utilized to visually help that visible tech aspect stick out. Yet with the Nike Shox R4 the exact opposite plays out. A Y2K-approved grey/silver upper dovetails into minimally tinted black and white Swooshes and sole tooling. If our point wasn’t clear by now, that inversion really does make for one of the more striking we’ve seen for this silhouette in recent months as its dominance continues.
The Nike Shox R4 “Light Smoke Grey” is already up on Nike.com, retailing for $155. Hit the links below to grab yours.
