TUNE may be taking a quieter, more personal approach with its first take on the Nike Air Force 1, but the feeling they’re looking evoke is louder than any pop of color.

Based in South Korea, TUNE has steadily built its reputation as one of the region’s most community-driven sneaker destinations, hosting some of the country’s most sought-after releases and cultivating a space where product and experience go hand in hand. Now, with its first official Air Force 1 collaboration, the retailer is channeling that same ethos into a design that prioritizes emotion over spectacle.

Titled “Wardrobe Unlocked,” the collaboration looks back to the colorful canvas iterations of the Air Force 1 that once defined the streets of Seoul in the 1990s. Framed as a rediscovered treasure, the release bridges generations by offering longtime enthusiasts a sense of nostalgia while introducing newer audiences to a pivotal era of the silhouette’s history.

The full canvas upper and “inside-out” build definitely hits a note among AF1 fans, recalling that foregone era. It’s got a hard canvas upper with a heavy waxed coating for a look and feel teetering on perfection. The rounded eyelets, Swoosh at the base of the lace collar, and lower-profile toe-box all factor into how good a simple-looking shoe can be.

Each pair includes a piece of silicon carbide sandpaper, inviting the option to distress the canvas upper at the wearer’s behest. While the initial first impression is especially important, TUNE’s Air Force 1 emphasizes what it make become over time.
