Being the designer of some of the most iconic sneakers ever means you’ve got a direct line to special pairs, whether commissioned by you or created by colleagues out of respect for your greatness. Tinker Hatfield is, for all intents and purposes, that guy — the designer behind many of the most popular Air Jordan models, including MJ’s personal favorite in the Air Jordan 11.
Grail collector and reseller @pgknows waited until today, Tinker’s 74th birthday, to show off his latest pickup: a stupid-rare Air Jordan 11 sample featuring special Tinker Hatfield branding throughout. The source states that these were made in 2013, either for Tinker’s birthday or his anniversary at Jordan Brand.
The design suits both occasions. The mudguard and Jumpman logos feature a striking, iridescent copper/rose gold finish, complemented by premium white leather up top. “Tinker Hatfield” replaces “Jumpman Jordan” on the tongue label, the backtab reads “TH” instead of “23,” and the insoles feature a collage of Tinker’s original Jordan 11 sketches. A white midsole and icy blue outsole cap off the pair underfoot.
These obviously never have and never will release, but scroll through the image gallery below if you feel like daydreaming a bit. If you’re interested, @pgknows is selling his deadstock size 9 for what we can only imagine will be a boatload.
