When It Rains It Pours: The Vans Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” Appears In Black

The Souvenirs will continue until morale improves. What began as a firmly rooted colorway linked to an archival Chanel design has now become a tsunami of incoming palette swaps, building off of the original “Warm Brown” and its subsequent “Burgundy” with a host of reinterpreted variations that keep the embellishments of the OG at the center.

Though just those two pairs have hit the scene, this update now makes four confirmed pairs in the can, with the “Oatmeal,” “Orange,” and “Navy” all predating this news. The Vans Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” in black breaks from the latter two, obviously, by opting for a dimmer profile in contrast to their vibrant reformattings. Trademarks of the series like the boucle Sidestripe, distressed soles, and charmed-up side panels remain in place.

Of course, we wouldn’t be providing the full picture without noting the possibility of saturation, or worse, fatigue. No doubt, the fact that official images of three “Souvenir” colorways have hit the collective sneaker internet in under 48 hours makes the effect greater. But the flip side of line-ups for the Satoshi Nakamoto Authentic that shut down Midtown Manhattan is the risk of eliminating that energy by aiming to recreate the moment too often, too soon.

We’ll have to see what Vans has planned before we make any final judgments. If we were betting folks, we’d assume that the four pending looks will come in two drops, paired with one another the way previous “Pearlized” pairs have been. Either way, expect the Vans Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” in black to retail at the standard $125.
