Kevin Durant’s Texas roots are returning to the spotlight as the Nike KD 6 “Texas” prepares for a comeback in December 2026. The retro news arrives shortly after Durant and Nike announced the launch of the Team KD NIL program with the University of Texas, strengthening the connection between the basketball star and his college legacy.
Originally released on October 10th, 2013, the Nike KD 6 “Texas” paid tribute to Durant’s lone collegiate season with the Texas Longhorns. The colorway quickly became one of the most recognizable releases from the KD 6 line, blending performance technology with a design rooted in Durant’s early basketball journey.
Designed by Leo Chang, the Nike KD 6 introduced a lightweight construction built for speed and responsiveness. The sneaker features an ultra-thin two-layer Hyperfuse upper reinforced with Flywire cables, helping lock the foot in place while keeping the overall build light. Performance support comes from Zoom Air in the forefoot paired with Max Air cushioning in the heel, delivering a balanced ride for both impact protection and quick transitions on court.
The Nike KD VI “Texas” colorway reflects the University of Texas palette through bold orange Hyperfuse panels on the throat and medial side. Black Hyperfuse wraps the lateral side and toe, accented by Green Glow speckling that adds contrast across the upper. Glow-in-the-dark Green Glow details appear on the Swoosh branding, midsole speckles, and sections of the outsole, reinforcing the shoe’s energetic look.
Underfoot, the model retains its signature hexagon traction pattern, designed to maximize grip during quick cuts and directional changes. The combination of lightweight materials, responsive cushioning, and aggressive traction helped establish the KD 6 as one of the most popular performance basketball sneakers of Durant’s Nike lineup.
