The “onto the next” cadence of the sneaker world may make it feel like long ago, but the Nike Air Liquid Max is still a very recent step in that journey, bucking a history of bringing more Air to each year’s silhouette by instead focusing on the negative space underfoot.

The Nike Air Liquid Max “Grey Fog” does well to accentuate the standout feature that the silhouette still champions, a full-length network of the Dynamic Air pods initially debuted by the Dn and Dn8. Here, that “liquid” title is particularly relevant, as mercury-like shine imbues the platform in its “Platinum Tint” tonality. Up top, a range of adjacent neutral grey tones brings equal parts everyday style and throwback chrome, perhaps most impactful with the Swoosh at the quarter.
