Everything is topsy-turvy when it comes to footwear. Streetwear is now fashion, formal is now casual, and thanks to the efforts of adidas Asia, their everyday staples are now… bowling shoes?
If you’ve been on our homepage or socials recently, that statement shouldn’t be unfamiliar, even if we’re still somewhat incredulous that it’s a reflection of fact. Edison Chen busted down the door on turning Three Stripes legends into ten-pin-worthy “performance” wear, breaking in the Superstar with platform, formalized sole units and animal prints. Shortly after, some of the German giant’s B-sides saw the same remix, as the Changle, Predator, and Angu made the switch.
Now playing the hits, the adidas Samba is the latest to step into this (literal) lane, aping Chen’s take with a leopard print overhaul that brings the zoological touch onto the Three Stripes branding and suede tassels that lean into the formal aspect. By contrast, a black patent leather partner plays things more traditionally, yet this worlds-collide hardware means these are anything but orthodox.
As with that aforementioned Changle/Predator/Angu set, the adidas Samba Bowling is likely to remain an Asia-exclusive, at least for the time being. Those on the continent can seek these out via atmos, set to release on May 1st.
