Though Nike is always quick to remind us that anyone with a body is an athlete, and as such has a presence in almost every athletic pursuit on the planet, Nike x F1 is a vein we’ve rarely seen as the sport has crested in popularity. As Michael Jordan continues to bring the Beaverton banner into battle on the NASCAR front, it seems Nike, Inc. has been content with letting Formula One racing remain absent from their portfolio. Yet maybe a “new kid on the block” will prove their entryway in, as the newly minted Cadillac Formula One squad flexes an ultra-limited Dunk Low.
Created earlier this year and now amid their inaugural season, the Miami GP this past weekend marked a real crowning moment for the American outfit, celebrating their first major on home soil and rolling out plenty of pageantry for the occasion. Sleek, minimalistic black and white was the theme for both car liveries and drivers’ gear to match, so it’s only right that the custom Swoosh product crafted alongside carried the same hallmarks.
Though understated in its palette, carrying the “True to your School” blocking you might see on the shelves, the details are where this Cadillac Nike Dunk Low shines, from the speckled traction to the dotted laces to a hefty dose of club-specific callouts. A network of stars appears on the heel counter and team logos crop up on the tongues, with that imagery fully enveloping the packaging. It’s there where the “catch” with this release becomes clear, as individually numbered and marked boxes reveal these were solely manufactured for the team owners, Dan and Cassidy Towriss.
Even if the general public won’t be seeing a release of this style, the potential seeds of Nike’s foray back into F1 and the heavy team pride on display make this Nike Dunk Low “Cadillac F1” notable all the same. Catch detailed images included below.
