Nike and streetwear label @wagyu.jp, based in, you guessed it, New York City, are dropping a collaborative collection centered on Tinker Hatfield’s Air Max 90. A recent barrage of teasers, including a lookbook featuring Sheck Wes in the shoes and a collaborative Nike Tech suit, hints that a release could be coming sooner rather than later.
Wagyu’s recurring motifs are exactly as you’d expect, with the New York imprint offering up hoodies, jorts, tees, and all the usual suspects, with branding inspired by that of A5 Wagyu beef, often incorporating the brand’s cow head logo. While that might present an obvious jumping-off point for the Nike collection à la the iconic Air Max 90 “Bacon,” the shoes and apparel are actually pared back in shades of black and grey. Wagyu’s cow head logo forms the heel badge, accompanied by gold Swooshes and “Wagyu” text within the mudguard window. Elsewhere we have a hairy suede quarter, perforated leather toe box, white rope laces, and a patterned sockliner.
