Nike LeBron 23 “Laser” Inspired By The Air Zoom Generation

The Nike LeBron 24 is imminent, but not imminent enough to end the run of the LeBron 23 just yet. James’ twenty-third mainline model, which at one point seemed like it could be his last worn in the NBA, continues its storytelling campaign with more callbacks to LeBron’s storied career, here surfacing in a “Laser” colorway tied to LeBron’s first-ever Christmas Day game.

Mark Smith’s Nike Laser Project touched several corners of the parent company in the early 2000s, including limited public releases of the Air Force 1, Cortez, and Dunk, as well as the Air Jordan 20 and Jordan 4 “Laser” pack. At the time, given the process’s production limitations, laser etching also served as a rather natural method for making PEs to bring attention to the new design innovation, most famously including a Jordan 3 made for Michael Jordan’s 40th birthday.

On Christmas Day in 2003, LeBron James suited up against T-Mac and the Orlando Magic wearing a Nike Air Zoom Generation “Laser” PE. Twenty-three years later, fittingly, that sneaker serves as the inspiration behind James’ 23rd numbered model. New laser etchings wrap the crown-shaped shell portion, complemented by a white upper and red satin interior.
