It’s a hot time for adidas Skateboarding, especially with the recent announcement of the adidas Kader as its namesake’s first signature shoe under the banner. Longer-time mainstays like Tyshawn Jones are still making their presence felt, as the NYC native takes a step up with the German giant by working his Hardies brand into his oeuvre through a nascent collaborative series.
A citrus-soaked colorway of the adidas Gazelle was the first to start this new chapter, and while that pair wasn’t especially skate-tooled, at least past ADV remodels still created at least a peripheral link. With the Hardies x adidas Adistar Control 5, all auspices of park-ready fare are out the window; this latest link-up shows that Jones and his brand’s goals extend far beyond his day job. Though the riveted Three Stripes branding remains in place, now figuring to be a hallmark of any of Hardies’ work, it’s a far moodier palette overall, built off of dark burgundy and aquatic blue trim.
