At this point it’s fair to say that the ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 will go down as one of the sneakers that defined the 2020s. As is often the case in our world, collaborations with a-list brands have helped propel the Sportstyle model to mainstream popularity, including projects by JJJJound, KITH, atmos, and countless others. For its next trick, the GEL-Kayano 14 is keeping it close to home with a collab by Japanese luxury streetwear brand FACETASM – and it’s a beauty.
Anchored by “Organic Beauty,” FACETASM’s GEL-Kayano 14 features an exhaustive palette of thirty different colors. The theme is broken up into four key references; plants, soil, light, and water. Using this large a color palette might imply a real “out there” design, and while not entirely void of that label, the sneaker is surprisingly wearable. Save for an iridescent copper finish on the heel, most of the colors used are of the same dim, pastel variety.
Beyond color, the sneaker comes with a few key hardware changes. Three different mesh types are used across the toe box and sides, and the midsole recreates the gritty texture of soil with a stipple finish. The lone FACETASM branding appears on the lateral side of the heel, presented atop the aforementioned copper panel. This is FACETASM’s first ever ASICS collaboration, and we can almost say for certain that it won’t be their last. ASICS’ collaborator depth chart includes several Japanese brands, including doublet, Beauty & Youth, and atmos to name a few.
The FACETASM ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 “Organic Beauty” releases in Japan on September 20th via FACETASM stores and the FACETASM E-Shop. For all those stateside looking to cop; the sneaker will be available though the E-Shop at 9:00 PM EST on 9/19. Retail is set at 28,600 yen, which translates to about $195.
