Nike Ja 4 “Jaws” Releases On September 18th

Something in the water, indeed. The Nike Ja 4 era is officially upon us as the “Nightmare” came off the board in mid-August, finally letting loose the sequel to one of NIke Basketball’s true hits this decade. First impressions and gut reactions are already set in store, with many celebrating the enduringly aggressive design language and hardware of the IV, but whether the model can truly live up to its predecessor will come down to the colorways it embarks on.

The Nike Ja 4 “Jaws,” now revealed via official images, is indication that the expressive lean of Morant’s line will very much be in place for this chapter. With his first three shoes, collaborations like that with Kool-Aid or Jurassic Park demonstrated a real willingness from Nike and Morant to let their hair down, playing into his cachet with the younger emo via vibrant, character-laden efforts. The Ja 4 “Jaws” is more homage than actual link-up; shark teeth chomping down on his triangle logo on the tongue is the closest we get to a film-accurate detail. However, subtle gradients on the exterior that take the shoe from navy to light blue adapt the fearsome predator’s rough skin, finished with shimmering dark blues on the JA-plate and Swooshes.
