In the wake of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s internal shift over to Nike, Converse has signaled its intentions to stick firmly in the lifestyle lane. To their credit, a play like the ongoing Tyler, the Creator “creative residency” under the 1908 banner showcases the potential within such a move; his 1908 One Star and 1908 Jogger remain pretty hot commodities as that program enters its second year. Yet a new unassisted silhouette is on the horizon, as the Palmes x Converse Jack Purcell re-establishes.
The First String initiative first (re)introduced the Jack Purcell, initially a presence on shelves all the way back in 1930. The model was originally produced by BF Goodrich, but some shrewd acquisitions in the years following placed the archival tennis model under watch of the Star, instead.
Following two pinnacle executions in white/green and green/white, Converse enlists Copenhagen brand Palmes to assist in this renewed life. Returning to more standard canvas and suede builds, the model’s hardy “smile” toe box remains in place as a central cue, here executed in a light “Mountain View” green and a deep “Parisian Night” navy. Contrast stitching throughout either shoe and co-branded details round out either pair.
The Palmes x Converse Jack Purcell releases on September 14th, retailing for $100. Catch studio images below; watch our Sneaker Release Dates page for full stockist info once available.
