The University of Kentucky is getting in on the Mamba Day festivities with some new Kobe footwear made exclusively for the Wildcats.
The school’s athletic programs revealed two new Nike Kobe Player Exclusives on August 24th, spanning both basketball and football. On the hardwood side, the Wildcats received a Nike Kobe 8 EM Protro dressed predominantly in white with Kentucky blue accents, giving the performance model an unmistakable Lexington makeover. These are very likely the pair that was issued in late 2023.
Football gets something considerably different — an on-field Kobe 6 Protro cleat, pairing a blue snakeskin TPU upper with black accents and adapting one of the most celebrated models in Kobe Bryant’s signature line for the gridiron.
Kentucky has been a steady recipient of Kobe PE footwear over the years, with its status as a Nike-sponsored university providing Wildcats athletes access to special makeups that never reach retail. The latest deliveries arrive appropriately on August 24th, a date synonymous with Bryant’s two Lakers jersey numbers and celebrated annually in his honor.
Neither Kentucky PE is expected to release publicly, making these strictly for the Wildcats.
