DTLR New Balance 1000 Yards M1000TY

Since 2001, Maryland-based sneaker chain DTLR has been committed to uplifting Historically Black Colleges and Universities through community outreach events. Now, that commitment manifests in the form of a collaboration with New Balance on the 1000 silhouette.

Named the New Balance “1000 Yards” after the term “Yardrunners” — which refers to individuals who have emerged from the campus of HBCUs and gone on to make a significant impact — the sneaker is dedicated to the students and alumni of all 107 HBCUs in the United States. The campaign imagery, set in a locker room, suggests an intentional nod to American football as well. Walter Payton and Jerry Rice — arguably the greatest running back and wide receiver in football history — both attended HBCUs, thus making the connection especially fitting.

As for the sneaker itself, the New Balance 1000 takes on a celebratory, almost regal aesthetic with green leather and gold detailing. The uppermost leather placement comes in black, while white mesh provides contrast one layer down. All told, it’s a design that feels both meaningful and wearable.

The DTLR x New Balance “1000 Yards” releases October 17th in adult ($150), grade school ($105), and preschool ($95) sizing, available in-store and online at DTLR. Return to our Where To Buy section below for purchase links on launch day.
