We’re still in New Balance’s “what else can we cook up?” phase and the newest tease could be another hybrid coming our way. After releasing a handful of new silhouettes and revamped runners, the Boston brand seems to be mixing together the 9060 with a whole lot of familiar 993 DNA.
The new model still has that bulky 9060 build, with the chunky sole and molded midsole doing most of the heavy lifting. You still get the split-up sole design and exposed CR piece too, so it keeps that oversized look that made the 9060 such a strong lifestyle sneaker.
The upper is where New Balance starts switching things up. Instead of looking like a straight 9060, this pair leans closer to the 993 with layered leather panels, open mesh, and a suede mudguard that runs from the side toward the toe. It brings in more of that classic New Balance runner feel, while the sole keeps things big, weird, and very 9060.
The first look is presented in a light grey and lavender colorway. This color scheme suits the hybrid nicely. The toned down colors help offset the chunkier sole, while the purple suede overlay adds just enough flair without making the sneaker feel like a science project.
Release details for the New Balance 993/9060 Hybrid have yet to be announced. Should it see a wider release though, it may grant fans another opportunity to debate if New Balance’s finest concepts originate from the past, the future or somewhere in between.
