Nike Air Rift 2 “Kenya” IQ8006-002

Nike’s SNKRS Verified line is going retro with the re-release of the Nike Air Rift 2 “Kenya.” Originally launched in 2002, the shoe draws from the split-toe language of the original Air Rift while amplifying the silhouette’s aesthetic into chunkier, more geometric territory.

No release date has been confirmed for the Nike Air Rift 2 “Kenya.” A SNKRS Verified drop suggests it will launch as an official Nike silhouette in the future, though. In the meantime, fans of the Rift series have another reason to monitor the app.

Moving away from the predecessor, Air Rift 2 is fuller in shape with a bootie-like interior and thicker, more constructed sole. That design alteration provides the shoe with more stability while maintaining the airy, carefree spirit that set the Rift series apart from your typical sneakers.

The tabi sock-inspired toe split is still here, which is easily the silhouette’s signature feature. It’s present at the forefoot and extends underneath to connect the Air Rift 2 to its predecessor without making the shoe feel like a straightforward reboot.

The Kenyan theme recalls both the Rift’s performance running origins and Nike’s long tradition of deriving inspiration from Kenyan distance runners. The shoe’s pocked side paneling also aligns with other futuristic-looking Nike silhouettes from the early 2000s, particularly female-centric releases like the Air SuperFly.

Adding the Nike Air Rift 2 “Kenya” to its retro catalog gives Nike another unique option in a market that’s opened back up to experimental runners and under-the-radar archive shoes. While we wait for more details on this retro release, keep your eyes peeled for it on SNKRS Verified.
