Nike Basketball’s “NY vs. NY” series is set to feature a major Kobe release in Summer 2026, as Jalen Brunson’s Kobe 5 Protro colorway is now expected to become available to the public.
After Brunson wore them in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the common assumption was that it was another player exclusive PE made for his Knicks playoff run. However, those thoughts have now been shot down as this version will be receiving a full retail release.
The upcoming Nike Kobe 5 Protro “NY vs. NY” is set to bridge Brunson’s New York origins with Nike’s established summer basketball tournament. Nike has always honored the city’s outdoor basketball legacy through these releases, highlighting everything from crowded parks to jerseys flying through the air on competitive runs that are what makes NYC basketball special every summer.
This shoe features an eclectic color scheme of Menta, Blue Glow, and Orange Horizon. Green dominates the majority of the upper, lending the shoe a Statue of Liberty vibe. Accents of blue and orange pay homage to New York basketball. Splatter-style accents adorn the overlays with coordinating laces while translucent outsole and Kobe 5s traditional low-top build complete the shoe.
The Jalen Brunson x Nike Kobe 5 Protro “NY vs. NY” is expected to release July 2026 at select Nike Basketball retailers and Nike.com. The shoe will be available in men’s sizing with a retail price set at $190 USD.
