adidas’ overtures to hip-hop and the music industry at large remain among the strongest initiatives coming out of Herzogenaurach. On top of recruiting some of the biggest Spanish-language stars in Peso Pluma and, of course, Bad Bunny, linking up with Hellstar and Sp5der speak to their efforts to court established streetwear partners in the space. That plotline is only growing more important as we get a first look at the latest in the adidas x Sp5der relationship: the adidas F50 Formotion adiZero.
It’s another big moment for the F50 language that defines both actual performance wear and resulting lifestyle silhouettes that’ve dominated the headlines recently. Here, the Three Stripes become leather overlays, intersecting the mesh base layer that places this in the “tech runner” lineage. We’d also be remiss not to bring up the Megaride series; though the accordion-like cushioning from that series doesn’t define this model, the same maximalist, speedy aesthetics are very much in use for the adidas F50 Formotion adiZero. Underfoot, the flared formation that this shoe takes becomes undeniable, splitting its traction into a ringed section under the heel and a pad just under the foot.
And of course, we can’t exit this discussion without mention of Sp5der. The streetwear brand has long made its hay with shimmering designs, so though this does step away from the moody palettes seen on their adidas Superstar Modified, this flooded silver look aligns well with what they’ve put on the table in their apparel. From a branding standpoint, they keep things lowkey for the Sp5der adidas F50 Formotion adiZero; a black stamp on the heel is the biggest inclusion.
While wide release details for the Sp5der X adidas F50 Formotion adiZero are still under wraps at the time of this writing, fans will be able to catch an early look at the upcoming release at the brand’s NYC pop-up. Taking place at 45 Grand St. from 10 AM to 8 PM, the showcase will also offer a chance at leaving with a pair; the first ten people in line will get pairs. Their latest collection and the Black Punk v2 hoodie will also be on offer.
