It’s a boom time for fans of the ’90s and 2000s. Y2K style has been shaping our social media feeds and wishlists for several seasons already, but that throwback ethos has increasingly informed what basketball offerings are on the shelves. If it’s not Jason Williams’ Hyperflight, it’s Jason Kidd’s Nike Zoom Flight 5 looming for a 2027 retro; if Kobe’s Zoom Flight Huarache 2K4 isn’t your speed, luckily the Air Max CB ’94 and Air Bakin are back in circulation.
Gary Payton’s Nike Zoom Flight ’98 “The Glove” is the latest of that crowd to rear its head again, understandably beginning its renewed journey with its essential white/black colorway, no doubt the layout that’s most stood the test of time. Yet the Swoosh didn’t dust off the Sonics legend’s silhouette for just one release.
We’ve now got images of the Nike Zoom Flight ’98 “The Glove” in “Royal Blue,” a simple palette swap on that murdered-out counterpart that outfits its sleek outer shroud, its mudguards, and its grooved midsole in the titular tone. White branding and accents fill the spaces between before a black interior breaks up that duopoly. Though it may not be the #1 colorway for fans of the model, note this cerulean pair was revisited in the sneaker’s 2014 market run, clearly stamping it as one that’s stuck around in the minds of both consumers and the brand as they dreamed up another round for The Glove.
No firm release date for the Nike Zoom Flight ’98 / The Glove “Royal Blue” has come down at the time of this writing, but we’re expecting a Q4 launch for this style. Expect a $170 retail price for this colorway once it comes to pass.
