adidas is loosening up one of its most recognizable sneakers with the adidas Originals Adimule Superstar, a new open-back take on the classic Shelltoe.
The model has not been given an official release date yet, but early pairs are expected to arrive in the coming months through adidas and select retailers. Pricing and sizing details have not been confirmed.
The front maintains what we know and love about the Superstar. A big ribbed shell toe caps off the forefoot while smooth leather-like upper and small perforations hits down the side. The rear of the shoe flips the script, swapping out the traditional heel for an opened back meant for slip-on convenience.
First shots courtesy of @addictorial.studio of the adidas Originals Adimule Superstar in Black and White colorways. The black pair features a dark upper, cream shell toe, tan footbed, and brown midsole edge. The white pair mirrors the same setup with a lighter upper, cream toe, and neutral footbed.
Trefoil logos appear on the upper and footbed, while “Superstar” text is placed near the lateral side. Those details keep the design tied to the original adidas Superstar, even as the shape moves further into slip-on footwear.
Heritage sneakers continue moving into slip-on and mule territory, especially as warmer weather approaches. The adidas Originals Adimule Superstar fits that trend while giving the Shelltoe a new lane outside its usual low-top format.
